A versatile pianist with a broad repertoire, Sławomir Dobrzański frequently performs a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South America, China, and throughout the United States.
As a soloist, he performed in Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Macedonia, France, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and throughout the United States.
He participated in the “Potomac River Piano Festival”, "Mozart Festival" in Poznań, Poland, "Chopin Festival" in Antonin, Poland, "Warsaw Autumn” Contemporary Music Festival, Festival of Polish Pianists in Słupsk, Poland, "Chopin Festival of Hawaii", "Chopin & Friends Festival" in New York City, “Chopiniana” Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Darmstadt Festival of New Music in Darmstadt, Germany, “Music Gettysburg!” Festival in Gettysburg, "El Paso Chopin Music Festival", American Liszt Society National Festival, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Chopin Festival in Miami, FL, "Athena" Festival in Murray, Kentucky, the KWU International Music Festival in Salina, KS, and Karol Szymanowski Festival in Beijing, China.
He is a graduate of the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland and the University of Connecticut, where he received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2001. His major teachers include Jadwiga Orzechowska, Regina Smendzianka, Andrzej Dutkiewicz, Jerzy Romaniuk, Jerzy Maciejewski, Kajetan Mochtak, Jack Winerock, Zelma Bodzin and Neal Larrabee. He also participated in summer courses in Switzerland and Poland, where he studied piano performance with Malcolm Frager, Mieczysław Horszowski and Victor Merzhanov. Additionally, he benefited from coaching sessions with Nina Tichman in Mainz, Germany, and Jan Gorbaty in New York City.
Dobrzański has recorded solo and chamber music by Witold Lutosławski, Karol Szymanowski, Fryderyk Chopin, Stefan Kisielewski, Artur Malawski (complete piano solo music), Feliks Rybicki, Carl Tausig, and Johannes Brahms for the Polish Radio and Television in Warsaw, Poland.
He is also an author of the first English language biography of the acclaimed 19th century pianist and composer Maria Szymanowska, published in 2006 by the Figueroa Press and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Under the London (United Kingdom) based Acte Prealable label, Dobrzański has released several critically acclaimed CD albums of previously unknown piano repertoire by Maria Szymanowska (complete piano music), Antoine de Kontski, Wiktor Labunski (complete piano music), Károly Aggházy, and Feliks Roderyk Łabuński (complete piano music).
Sławomir Dobrzański is the founder and former Artistic Director of the Fryderyk Chopin Society of Connecticut, established in 1999.
A Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, Dobrzański was a member of music faculties at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and the University of Rhode Island. Currently he is Professor of Music in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Kansas State University, where he teaches piano performance, chamber music and piano literature. Between 2009 and 2013, he served as the Chair of Keyboard Studies at K-State. He is experienced in leading Study Abroad groups to Europe, where they explore sites connected with lives and works of celebrated musicians. He also serves as piano faculty member at the InterHarmony International School of Music.
As a guest teacher, Dobrzański lectured and conducted masterclasses at national conservatories in Peru, Paraguay, Slovakia, and Singapore, as well as at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Universidad de Cuenca in Ecuador, Hong Kong Baptist University, Aletheia University and National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre in Brazil, and at Keimyung University in South Korea. He collaborates with the International Piano Performance Examination Committee in Taichung, Taiwan.
Sławomir Dobrzański's former piano students are currently pursuing artistic and academic careers all over the world, across North and South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Many have become highly successful soloists and chamber musicians, often while serving simultaneously on the music faculties of colleges, music conservatories, and community music schools.
Dobrzański is the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Teacher Award from Kansas Music Teachers Association.
For his contributions to Polish and Polish-American culture, the pianist was honored by the Government of the Republic of Poland with the title "Meritorious to National Culture".
He was nominated twice (2019 and 2020) to the title "Ambassador of Polish Culture".
